Right and wrong
We keep discussing right and wrong all our lives without ever contemplating this issue in depth. Every right and wrong has a vantage point and perspective. For example, from the "perspective of life", everybody has a right to live. Therefore, if any living being is killing another being, that is wrong. From that perspective, a lion killing a deer is wrong. Human beings killing any living being for food is also wrong.
However, when we see from the "perspective of humanity", many of the wrongs from the "perspective of life" become right. If we are cutting the trees for development, that is considered to be right. If we kill other living beings to feed human beings, that is considered to be right. If we build the dams and kill all creatures living in the rivers, that is right. If we kill the pests and insects by spraying pesticides and insecticides, that is right. If we kill bacteria and viruses to save human beings, that is right. There are many wrongs from the "perspective of humanity". One human being killing the other human being is wrong. One human being taking away the liberty and freedom of another is wrong. Exploitation by one human being of the other is also wrong.
When we see from the "perspective of the nation", many of these wrongs become right. Killing the soldiers of an enemy country is right. Exploiting the poor country by the rich is right from the perspective of the rich countries. Capturing all the resources to make the people of other countries starve is also right. There are many wrongs. Not putting the country before self-interest is wrong. Not following the national laws is wrong.
When we see from the "perspective of the family", many of these wrongs become right. Putting the family before the nation is right. Violating the laws of the land to protect the family is right. There are many wrongs. Pursuing individual interests compromising the interest of the family is wrong. Not taking care of the elder members of the family is wrong.
When we see from an "individualistic perspective", many of these wrongs become right. Pursuing self-interest at the cost of the family is right. For career, one overlooks the parents and that is right from this perspective.
So, the meaning of right and wrong changes with the perspective. Our perspective of life depends upon our level of awareness. A lack of awareness creates an illusion of separation. This separation creates insecurity and out of this insecurity, we develop different desires. Greater the ignorance and stronger the fixation with these desires. At times, the fixation becomes so strong that we do not hesitate from harming others. We become like cancerous cells eating away our own bodies. As our awareness grows, we understand how all the body cells are connected to each other. How there is one consciousness making them all function so smoothly. With this awareness, we slowly start turning from the cancerous cells to the stem cells creating life.
Rights and wrongs can not be taught by lessons on morality. These lessons bring only falsity and inauthenticity. Till the time one's awareness grows, any efforts to impose moral values are artificial and are bound to be resisted by the individual. He may, at best, follow these standards out of fear. The moment fear is gone, he will turn immoral by these standards. As one's level of awareness grows, fixations start dropping gradually. No lesson on morality is needed. One starts connecting to the others at a different level. Relationships between two people, with growing awareness, become deep and real as compared to shallow worldly relations based on give and take and being full of expectations. The entire world become a better place to live. Life becomes meaningful and full of fun and exploration.
